Photo Planning

Photo Planning

The photos that i take of my artist, Lola Matthews, will be outside. I will take them outside as the colours are brown and green. These colours reflect Lolas personality as she is a very natural and down to earth person. The outside will make my model stand out as the colours are quite darkl and merge together meaning that my model will be easily noticable and will mean all the concentration will be on her. My photos will be based around the ones shown to the right. These all have aspects that i want my photos to have and they are what i will aim my photos on.

When taking my photos my model will look very natural and normal. I will show this through the poses that she makes. The poses will be bold and her facial expressions will be natural and plain. She will be looking either into the camera or into the distance as i feel this reflects the genre of my magazine. Music magazines all have simular poses on the front that show the artist looking into the distance, so by making my model do this it will make it simular to other music magazines.

Some of the poses that i will get my model to make are:
  • Looking into the distance with one hand in her hair and one on her hip.
  • Sitting on a tree looking toughtful
  • Laughing and looking down at the ground and more
I will also take lots of photos of my model just being normal as this way i can capture the look i want without it looking forced.
Aswell as taking the photos that i have mentioned above, i will also try lots of other poses untill i find something i like and i think is suitable.

Lola Matthews
Fresh faced, confident, stylish and powerful. The Indie Queen
From school Girl to singing sensation. 17 year old Lola Matthews hit the charts with Hidden Love. It shot straight to number one within a week of being released on her new album....(Name)
Lola’s passion for music came to her as a child. She grew up listening to bands like Blur, The Kooks, The Police and lots more. She heard all this music through her dads record collection that he listened to on a daily basis. In school Lola took part in any musical event as she loved to be centre stage and show of her talent. All her friends loved the music that she wrote herself and named her the Indie Queen. This name has stuck to this day.
Lola Matthews gets a lot of her lyrical inspiration from past relationships that haven't gone to plan and have ended badly." i show my emotions through my lyrics. the feelings that i have i turn into lyrics, my lyrics are like a diary to me as they tell the story’s that i have been through and remind me of how far i have come."
Lola's New album, (insert name), includes Hidden Love, along with 6 other never before heard songs. Although Hidden Love made it to number one in the charts, it isn't Matthews favourite song. " Hidden Love is an emotional song, but to me ( insert name) is by far my favourite song on the album. I spent ages on (insert name) perfecting it and putting as much emotion into it as i could." ( Album Name) is a big seller. We wanted to get Lola’s opinion on why she thought this was.
" Im unsure why (Album Name) is so popular, Maybe my fans realise how much work i put into it and how proud of it i a. i hope my songs reflect this and it stays a big seller as it's so great to know that people enjoy what i produce, and it makes me want to carry on making music for my fans."

Lola has a massive future ahead of her in the music industry. " Releasing my first album was insane and one of the best feelings ever. One day i hope to have enough fans so that i can tour. But right now I’m still trying to get over how well I’ve been accepted into the music industry and how amazing all the support on my album is. Life couldn't get any better than now!"
"Although i have been so well excepted into the music business i still get negative comments like every artist does. People say I’m too young to be creating music, but to me age is just a number and it's not going to stop me perusing my passion."

We hope to see more of Lola in the future as we love her style and think she can go far!

Lets Talk ( Extra section on Lola’s page)

Amplify
West London’s Alternative Boys full of passion and Power.
Amplify release their third album this week. It includes well known songs such as Her way and Don't Look Back.
The Four Boys are reloaded and ready to hit the stage again. They will be announcing their tour dates this Christmas, ready to start their tour next year.
Amplify are passionate musicians that found their love for music as teenagers. They are all best friends from school who kept a close relationship as they all left and went to different universities. In secondary school they all fell for music in their music class. " our teacher used to just put on classic songs for the whole lesson while we worked."
“slowly our passion grew from their as we all used to join in and sing along. we soon realised that all our voices worked well together and from there onwards, the only way was up." And haven’t they travelled far? from singing together in class at school, to releasing their third album and going on tour.
Amplify are a united team." We have our ups and downs, but who doesn't! we have come so far and we aren't ready to throw it away."
Amplify haven't had the smoothest of journeys to fame. Soon after they released their second album in 2010 Amplify were all found posessing illegal drugs while they were on vacation in America. This ruined their image and upset fans greatly. This was a big mistake on Amplifys part and we thought their career could come to an end there and then.
When questioned on the situation, Amplify replied with, " who doesn't make mistakes. As singer/songwriters there is a lot of pressure on our shoulders to do everything right and change our life style to suit our audience. Yes music has changed our lives but it hasn't changed the way that we are. Fans seem to forget that we are human to, we make mistakes, and this was a big one, but we have learnt from it and we have progressed forward, we just hope that our fans can too." It looks like their fans have moved on as the new album has shot into the charts and straight to number one! Looks like things can only get better from here for Amplify

Feature Article Draft

Feature Article Draft

My feature article page is quite organised. This means that the reader can easily read the information and they know where to look. My page is quite simple as this is easier to ajust and also easier to read.

I have included music magazine conventions such as drop caps. But putting the drop caps in the same font as the masthead means that people will recognise it as content from my magazine.
I also have The masthead and the pause sign in the bottom corner of the page next to the page number. This is a typical convention of a magazine and is brading throughtout the magazine.

I have two artists mentioned on my magazine page. I feel this will make the reader think that they are getting more for their money as they only expected an article on one artist. It also breaks up the page so the text isn't all in one place.

Contents Page Draft

Contents Page Draft

My contents page is full of information. This is the first page, after the front cover, that readers see. This means that this is the page that needs all the information as the reader wants to know what page to turn to so that they can find the information that they want.
My contents page contains the same colours that are seen on my front cover. This carries on the house style throughout the magazine. All the sections are alined in the layout. This makes it easy to follow and doesn't make it to confusing.
By having a picture taking up a lot of the page it shows the reader what kind of artists are found in the magazine. The whole page gives readers a sneek peak into what to find in the magazine.

Front Cover Draft

Front Cover Draft

The design for my front cover is simple and effective. By hvaing an image with no props it keeps the readers attention on the artist and not whats going on around them.
As this is a draft of my front cover, when i come to actually producing it i will change things, add things and move things around. By having a simple design it gives me room for improvement and gives me plenty of freedom with my design.
My draft contains all the key things that you would find on a magazine cover. I have a strong image taking up the whoole page. I also have a barcode thats usually found on magazine covers. I have certian article titles on the front that i feel will draw in the reader as they are interesting and new.

Feature Article Artist Planning

Feature Article Artist

Lola Matthews is a solo artists whos ready to shine.

My House Style

My music magazines house style

Colours
I will have 3 main colours within my magazine and 2 extra colours as secondary colours.  The 3 main colours within my magazine will be Blue, black and white a all of these colours are both male and female  orientated colours, meaning my magazine will appeal to both genders. The  2 extra colours that I will  use are red and yellow as these colours stand out and will draw attention to  the smaller things within the magazine.

Font

The main font that i will use throughtout my magazine is Goudy Old Style as it is simple and easy to read which is key in a magazine. I will use this font for all of the writing in my feature article.I will also have a second font for other smaller detail. This font will be Ariel and Ariel Bold for more key things that i want to stand out. This font is very simple and this means that the reader can easily read it and see teh information that they need to clearly. Vladimir Script will be one of my other fonts. I will use it for section titles on my front cover as it stands out and makes my magazine look more grown up and fancy.

Extra Features

Certain house style features that I will use  in my magazine are as followed:
I will have the masthead of my magazine on every page next to the page number. This will be for branding and so that the reader knows  that it's an article by pause and that they are reading a pass magazine.
I will also have small images within my slugs in the magazine so that the reader gets an idea of what the article as about without having to read it. This will  also help to break up alliof the words so the  reader doesn't  get bored of just reading.

For things such as the titles on each page i will use Tw Cen MT. This fort is easy to use and stands out when put in Bold.

House style

House Style

Mojo House Style

One of Mojos main house styles is the use of their mast head on every  page. This helps readers to know that it's a Mojo  article and helps them to remember what  magazine they are  reading.

Most Mojo front coves have a similar layout, along with the same colour scheme on most of the front pages. Black and white are the predominant colours on the cover, with the mast head normally in white, but changes due to the background colour. These colours are recognised a nd associated with Mojo so the reader knows it's a Mojo magazine.

A re-occurring feature within Mojo is The Mojo| Interview. The slug on this page is always found in a light blue and black background with the text in white. When the reader sees this slug they know what it is as the colours relate to the article

Mojos main font, that is used for the masthead reappears throughout  the magazine  within slugs and sub titles. They use the same font as type font is associated with the mast head of Mojo when it is seen. This means that the reader knows who the article is by without  having  to look at the front cover.

Q house style

Q's house style is simple and easy to notice. One of Q's main house styles is the placing of their mast head on every page next to the page number.  This is so that the Q branding is carried through the whole magazine so thst the reader knows that all the content in the magazine is Q's

On the front cover of every Q magazine red black and white are the primary colours. When these colours are seen on the front cover they are associated with Q straight away.

Another main house  style of Q's is to have  drop caps at the beginning  of every article. The drop cap is in white and contained within a red box. This is the use of Q's main  colours. This helps the reader to know its an article by Q.it is also very similar to Q's masthead as that is a white Q within a red box.

All of the slugs that are seen throughout the magazine are simukar as they all have simular font against a one colour background. Most  of the slugs contaim a small image that is related to what  the page is about, e.g. in the section called 'editor's letter' there is a pen to as it's a letter. As this house style is seen throughout the magazine it lets the reader know its a Q article as it is recognisable and linked  to them

Chosen Font

Chosen Masthead Font

This is my chosen font for my masthead. I chose this as it was voted for as the best font in my survey. This font is quite different to the rest. It is readable but quite edgy at the same time. The edges of the font are quite sharp which suggests that the type of music within the magazine is quite edgy and different from other genres.
